	Maite Vanhellemont's work often moves at the intersection of family stories and collective history. In the project “A Little Memory of The Beginning”, she reflects on her Dutch-Indonesian heritage using archive material, photography, video, drawings and text.

In the spring of 2025, she was selected for the Fotodok Talent Embassy, and in 2024, the project “Zoals mij gewoon is” (As is common to me) was presented as a solo exhibition during the SPOOR Art Festival (BE), in collaboration with the Plan B Arts Platform. In 2021, she self-published “Our Silver Lining”, which was presented at various art book fairs in Europe.

In addition to her work as a visual artist, she also works as a lecturer at the Univeristy of the Arts in Utrecht (NL) and as a language volunteer at Stichting Dynamo. Maite is currently also pursuing a part-time master's degree in “Education in Arts” at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam.
 Both as an artist and as a teacher, I want to create work and teach in a way that connects to social themes and issues. This is also reflected in my work as a language volunteer at Stichting Dynamo and the various participation projects I am involved in as an artist. Because whether it concerns my own projects or the collaborations I enter into, my work is always created in exchange with someone else.

	HARI DEPAN SAYATwo-week photography workshop for the students of Senior High School SMA Aquino, in Amurang, Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The theme of the workshop referred to the study program my father, Frank Persijn, started here 12 years ago; Hari Depan Saya / My future days. The students practised different forms of photography and learned to experiment. Their 'try-outs' as well as the final results where presented in an exhibition that was organised entirely by themselves.

	THE TRANSFORMERSPhotography assignment for&#38;nbsp;The Transformers: a new pop band from Rotterdam that’s all about exchange. The different life experiences of the band members tell a wider story of the city of Rotterdam. These stories – of people with experiences of and with homelessness – are elevated by the skills of professional musicians. The music made can often tap into a deeper layer of meaning and urgency when combined with those stories and the playing of those who have experienced homelessness. Hence the name picked by founders Marije van Rijn and Hans Vermunt; The Transformers.

	DEPEND ON ME‘Depend on Me’ is a research program, initiated by artist Marieke Zwart, that facilitates artistic collaborations between professional and non-professional artists, funded by AFK. Over the course of 7 months, 10 artists from professional, semi-professional and amateur art-practices created a new work and researched how to collaborate horizontally and interdependently as artists from different contexts and generations. I collaborated on the project as an artist and photographer, helped organizing the exhibition at Punt WG&#38;nbsp;and worked as an editor on the publication 'Professional Amateur'.

OUR SILVER LININGPublication / edition of 400


Our Silver Lining is an ongoing collection of everyday observations by Maite Vanhellemont. 


All film stills and photos collected in this publication were unstaged and shot between the spring of 2018 and the winter of 2020 using a iPhone 8. 


A selection of the film stills was previously shown during a digital pop-up exhibition in Amsterdam's subway network in the context of Museum Nacht 2019. The text ‘Wat Niemand Ziet’ is also part of Jan Zwaaneveld’s collection of short stories of the same name, which was published in the spring of 2021. 


The title of this publication refers to a text I came across above a house in Ostend (BE), during a family weekend in the autumn of 2018. Perhaps according to some a cliché, but I experienced this as a piece of poetry, which you sometimes just stumble upon.

Our Silver Lining is printed on Eos 2.0 90g and the cover is screen printed on Malmero Abysse 250g paper. The text is typeset in Times Ten by Linotype.

Temporary can be long

I easily get attached to a view.&#38;nbsp;
It’s usually the first thing I notice when I enter a place.&#38;nbsp;
In the Fifth Season the windows are beautiful and way more romantic than I thought they would be.&#38;nbsp;
In the units where the patients live the windows are placed diagonal. They show a different perspective, you can either see the sky or the ground.
Horizons temporarily out of sight.Installation as a result of the ‘Het Vijfde Seizoen’ summerschool.&#38;nbsp; In ten days we’ve explored the field of psychiatry, language and art and worked towards an exhibition.&#38;nbsp;

My graduation project 'Islanders : a poem on three screens or my kind of manifesto' is a video installation with fragments that have all been filmed and written in several (alternative) health-care facilities in the Netherlands.The presentation on three screens is of great importance to me because it emphasizes the fragmentary aspect of the work - it is simply not possible to see everything at once - so you, as a viewer, also have to take a position / choose a perspective. Sometimes even very literally, because several scenes are taking part in the same room.Translated with the help of Judie Ellington. Design by Fabian Hamacher.

Ik kan (niet) Nederlands praten. Kan jij (je) Nederlands praten? Kunnen jullie ----- praten. Kan, moet, &#38;nbsp;Mag, Zal, ga, wil. Anoniem als individu in het Nederlandse bureaucratische vluchtelingenbeleid, een ander gevoel van tijd en ruimte ontstaat. In samenwerking met Wouter Stroet en Michael Jovanovic ben ik tot een publicatie gekomen die een geabstraheerd beeld schetst van deze situatie.
